Thank you to everyone that responded to my post. One of my concerns is that I really am not sure what the extent of the damage is. I know for a fact that there are issues at the lower right bolt that attaches the jack plate to the transom. I pulled it out and it had black debris on it. I added marine silicone to the bolt and reinstalled it and could tell that the transom was soft as I tightened the bolt. I pulled the bottom bolt on the other side and it was clean. I did not pull the top bolts to check it out.

I looked through some of the posts where guys went through the drying out process, but my 2002 does not have a splash well. Not sure how to dry this one out. I do know for a fact that it has a wood transom. Champion changed over to the composite the next year, 2003..... Just my luck.

I am leaning toward biting the bullet and having it replaced. Now just need to make sure I have the work performed by someone that does a good job so I don't have to worry about it down the road. Hope to have this boat for many years to come....

Thanks again for all of the information.

Don't you just cut the top away and put heat lamps on it?

The professionals are technically right. I have not completely cured it, but the nails have grown out pink and thinned almost to the ends and I never have any trouble with blistering, peeling, or itching between the toes as I had had for six decades. Marine Clean in Nacogdoches repairs tons of champions. They are as good as it gets, especially on older champs. Check out their custom builds on Facebook
