Well, it all started when I woke up at 5 a.m. to do a little hog/coyote control out on my neighboring ranch. After 5 hours of a whole lot of nothing, I decided to check out the 100 acre lake on the ranch and see if I couldn't jig up a couple bass around some timber. After a while of trying, unsuccessfully. I moved to the bank to put my kayak up and go home. As I was rolling up to the truck, I heard a bass hit the top in about 2 feet of water, in some grass that normally isn't covered in water, except for the recent rain.

I ended up catching 10 bass in a little under an hour, with the average weigh over four pounds. It was ridiculous. I hope y'all check out the video below, it really was something else.

Their tails were all bloody, which tells me they're post-spawn males, likely feeding up again. I had to cut my trip short so I could go home, and also because I didn't want to stress the fish out too much.




I had luck throwing a Texas rigged blue craw, pinned, so I could slip it through the grass easily. Man I loved it.

Very nice. Just shows that sometimes your senses will put you on fish. I was in a similar situation on my best day of fishing. I was paddling back to the launch when I heard bass busting the surface, luckily I made a detour.
