Looking at getting another NRX for 3/8 1/2 jigs. 6 and 7 inch senkos. Mostly bottom contact baits. I would like to be able to skip with it. I am looking at the 853 854 893 894. I kind of want an all around bait casting rod. Is the 3 power a HM?

The 3 and the 4 are the power. The 85 and 89 are the inches of the rod.

I only use their spinning rods, so cant help you much on the baitcaster side.

I have both an 853 and and 854 as well as several GLXs including an 894. Use the 853 80% of the time when fishing the baits you described. Find the 854 is better suited to 3/4 oz jigs or when flipping into heavier cover with tungsten weight punching rigs. Find that the 894 is too long for skipping/point casting so prefer to stay with the 7'1" rod. Also Loomis "3" power is a strong Medium Heavy. Have a Dobyn's Xtasy in 3 power and it is more like a Loomis "2" power. Really like the Dobyn's rod as well for lighter weightless soft plastics FWIW.

I have a 852c, 853c, 854c in the JWR line and a 873crr. For your application I usually use the 853 but I broke it a few weeks ago and am still waiting on a replacement. In the mean time I've been using the 873crr in its place. Its quickly become my go to rod for the applications you're wanting. As for the 893, 894 I have a GLX893 and find it to be a bit tip heavy.

I would prefer the 853 for the senkos and the 854 for the jigs.
