Went to Ray Hubbard bank fishing, and found many snakes swimming around all the time. One even attacked a catfish I caught. Is this a common water snake? Thanks. [Linked Image]

Yep, looks like a diamondback water snake. Non poisonous but can be really vicious when handled. Nasty bite and they love to try and eat fish right off your stringer. Had one once get into my fish basket and swallowed a Bluegill. He couldn't get out because he was so swollen. I had to grab him and pull him out through the lid. That's how I know they have a nasty bite. Real slippery critters when trying to hold their head. cry
