I fish a lot but I haven’t fished Granbury in 35 years. I’m meeting a couple old friends there in two weeks ( when the water “clears”). How is the sand bass and striper population doing there now a days? I know its a lot more developed all around the lake, and being a skinny river lake is it overly crowded? Any input appreciated.

I am fairly new to Granbury, so I do not have much to say about the sand bass and stripers. I am still trying to figure out how to catch them myself!
As for the crowds: Not too bad lately. Obviously, the crowds will get worse as the water warms up. I would shoot for fishing on a week day.
Here's to feelin' good all the time.

I fish Granbury a lot during the summer and can tell you that last year the sandbass population was down quite a bit, you could find schools here and there but it was very sporadic with little surface activity.
That being said, striper fishing was fair/good, we would usually catch them with live shad at the points between Decordova and the dam. Never had any banner days but it was pretty consistent.
This will be the first real weekend I am spending out there this year, I will let you know how we do in the murky water.

Good luck Geoff. Granbury is a great little city and lake.

Fished both Saturday morning and Monday morning for stripers. Caught shad easily and basically went to every location I know of between Decordova and the dam, we caught 3 each day with only 1 keeper. We could never locate any schools of fish, only one or two here and there. That being said, the water was 75 degrees and very muddy, visibility only about 2-3 inches.
BRA had all 16 gates open at the dam as well so that may also have been a factor.
On the other hand, largemouth fishing on Sunday was good pitching docks and submerged vegetation.

I was just at the lake. BRA releasing 24.000 cfs. The water is moving very fast with lots of trash buildings up. Muddy muddy water. It may be some time before the lake clears.
