SRV played a bar in Nac called Crossroads a lot in the early '80s when I was at SFA. Saw him a bunch. Flash forward several years...a buddy called me and said Stevie Ray is playing tonight (I think it was Poor David's) let's go. I had to be at work at 6:00 the next morning and I said I'll catch him next time he is in town. A couple weeks later he was dead.
How about another great Texas guitar player Buddy Holly.

one of the best shows I ever saw was the bluegrass festival in telluride with doc and merle watson. merle was killed in a tractor rollover not too long after and doc passed a yr. or so back, both were some of the best guitar pickers ever and doc was blind from birth. tell me you wouldn't have the happy feet with 3 days of this.   I think I heard myself clapping

The Crusaders, with Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, Stix Hooper and whatever guitar player they wanted...Larry Carlton, Dean Parks, etc. Heck, whatever other musicians they wanted really. I used to know Joe Sample, he had a place in Mammoth where I lived and I partied with him several times. Saw him several times with "Joe Sample and friends." Fantastic!  That’s awesome!!! I’m a music nerd and he was on a “musicians I want to see play live before I die” list I made, but he passed before I got to see him.
