the problem with the hydrilla now that it is in the soil in the lake and will grow if it is left alone. But when the young plants start to grow the turtles eat it. Have any of you seen some wire mesh "rounds" out in the water along the shoreline?
They were put there to see if the hydrilla would grow without interference from the turtles. In the places where it did grow except for where they could reach through the wire mesh there was no plants growing within about an inch all around.
So how do you get ride of all of those turtles without having peta or some other do good group coming down on you?

More alligators.

Just go into Little Caney and net up a bunch of the little gators before mom and dad eat them all and put one in each cove all around the lake. OK, it will take awhile but reducing the number of turtles :"naturally" will help the hydrilla to recover.

According to the TPWD biologists out if the Tyler office that has Lake Fork as their responsibility hydrilla is just vegetation. In the past the previous biologists called it invasive. That in of itself is a big plus for the possibility of growing new hydrilla.
Spraying is done by the SRA contractors. Who in the past have sprayed the wrong vegetation.. There has to be a way to ,monitor where they go and what they spray so that does not happen again.

You might try putting a couple in Wright Patman from time to time.

Thank you LFSA for helping stock more future big bass in Fork to keep the GOAT lake going. I know your group also helped plant a lot of shoreline cover too in the past years. Thank you for that as well.

there aren't any grass carp in Fork

Actually TPWD is stocking many more lakes now that they have begun spawning all of the fish brought in over 13 LB whether they are the F 1 Floridas or not. The thinking is if they got that big why wouldn't their babies get big too.

However they only have so many spawning ponds and when all of the fish came in from OH Ivie they were over -whelmed.

Does native bass ever get stocked? Seems it would be a good idea to stock both for growing big fish that also live longer. The state record type.

Florida genetics make the fish SO fickle....harder to catch, and shut down at the hint of a cool breeze! Rarely does anyone seem to consider the downside.
