This may not be the best forum to ask but from my experience only the best and brightest minds come off of TFF.
Anyone have any tips for removing a stuck LR308 barrel nut? We're trying to rebarrel a factory POF 308 and I've tried everything: heat, penetrating oil, heat + penetrating oil, heat + penetrating oil + extreme cold (liquid C02), several days soak of penetrating oil, cheater bar, etc. I thought I was getting somewhere with the cheater bar but all that did was pull the block out of the vice. Good thing is so far I haven't broken any teeth off, but it is without question the most stuck barrelnut ran into.
Anyone ever run into this before? I'm really not sure what else to do, no AR-15 nut has ever been this tight but I don't have much experience with ar10s. The next option might be hammer and chisel, but thought it would be wise to take counsel first before bashing my frustrations away.

Have you asked this over at the THF?
There are some good gun guys here too. I have no answer. Generally on stuck bolts or nuts I heat to glowing then ice cold water and immediately apply loosening pressure. I might be afraid to do that with a firearm.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

Is the assault rifle in question fully semi automatic? Can it fire twenty 30 caliber clips in half a second?

Tap on the barrel nut wrench with a hammer while applying force on the wrench. Nothing too crazy. Light then moderate taps.

Sounds like using an impact wrench. This I might try. Too bad there aren't air attachments for this.

I deal with old parts that sit outside. Some require that tap to free up. All the wrench on the world wont turn some of these nuts but those taps do. Not sure why.
