Looking for some friendly advice. Headed that way this weekend and have read the lake is pretty high and I’m sure pretty muddy. We stay at Cedar Mills and usually run down east and north of the islands across the lake from Lowe’s and as far north as the big cross overlooking the lake. Usually use live shad when we can find them.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Haven’t had much luck out there the past few years. Hired a charter last year but we got run off the lake by a storm about two hours in to the trip.
Thanks

For us, bait was a snap. Shad are spawning. The two coves on either side of the boat ramp at Preston bend are literally loaded with shad in the morning and the evening. Fishing on the other hand sucked. We could find the schools, and they'd be busting through shad. But only once did any of them take the live shad we had out. They flat out ignored it, all but one time. Managed a lot of eater size blue cats though, and my buddy's son got on some smallmouth.
