Howdy everyone 👋
I’ve been thinking about calling up one of the party boats in Galveston to go on a tuna trip and was wondering if anyone here has gone? Any pointers for a guy that’s never hooked a tuna?
I have a Penn 113 with 30 lb mono but don’t know if it’s up to the task. I also read online that they have tackle they’ll let you use.
What should I take or not take?

I don’t fish out of Galveston, so I can’t recommend a specific party boat, but I can tell you that your Penn 113 will work fine. The party boats do have all the gear you need, but many of their rods have been really used hard and may not work perfectly. Therefore, I always take my own. When you get on the boat just ask the deck hand to rig your rod like theirs. Good luck.

I recommend the New Buccaneer (Galveston Party Boats) but tuna fishing is pretty much done until fall. Only two trips left and they are sold out. The 113 will work, especially if it is a 113H. The boat has plain 113's for gear and the rods are OK. Look at the threads on 360tuna.com for more info.

Starting June 1 is snapper and bottom fishing trips. Go to their web site ( galvestonpartyboatsinc.com ) and look under "Booking". This will show you all their trips for the month. I usually find the bay trips a waste, but that's just me.

If you want to go for Tuna go to Venice LA. Texas tuna fishing can’t hang with Venice. If you want inshore go with a inshore guide in a bay boat.

I would not want to have a Yellowfin on 30# mono.

Took me almost an hour to catch a 130 pounder that hit a topwater. Finnor marquasa 30 with 80 pound braid

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!
