Better in the leg than the chest like Steve Irwin. That dang hole in the leg bled really heavily.

Not going to mess with a Sting Ray. Cut it off outside the boat. Hate to hook one while wade fishing.

If you get hit by one put the warmest water you can stand on it.

I've been fortunate, kicked a bunch out of the way.
I've had a few friends that got harpooned, it's a nasty wound.
Bleach will stop the pain quick, it neutralizes the acid in the venom.

Ouch. That was a direct hit to a blood vessel. The good part is that bleeding that much helps remove the foreign material from the wound. Since I fish for records, I often weigh the stingrays. The first thing I do when I handle them is to correctly remove the barb to prevent similar situations. Getting barbed is very painful. I am glad your wound didn’t get infected.

That’s actually a Cownose ray in the video, but like a Stingray, they also have a venomous stinger as the fisherman in the OP found out.

I was struck in the heal while wade fishing. Went all the way through and back out. Luckily without breaking off. It bled for 2 weeks (milky pinkish color blood). Worst pain of my life; as the poison traveled up my leg, the pain followed intensely. But it can be remedied with heat. Hot water is what I used.

Have scars on both sides now. Proud owner of ray guard boots and shin guards now!
