My dad is getting back into fishing. He fishes some good farm ponds. There was a 7# fish that came out of one of them. He like fishing TX rigged plastic worms with as little weight as he can get away with. Without breaking the bank, what rod/reel would be good for him in this capacity?

Shimano Curado K on a decent rod for a $200-$300 setup. Diawa Tatula would be another reel option. Combo up something like this, or a slightly better rod for not much JM/Curado

Phenix Feather (best feel for the price, and perfect for light T-rigs imo), and whatever Daiwa you are willing to buy budget wise. If you wanna go all out "on a budget"....Phenix Feather+Tatula SV TWS should be money for what hes doing.

Get you an Academy brand of rod and go to ebay and get a Daiwa cr80. You are into the combo for about $130-$140. Great reel for the price and good warranty on the rod. BTW the SLX reel that was mentioned is more expensive than the one I suggested but the SLX is an awesome reel. I have two of them and love them.

I retract my suggestion! LOL I still think my combo is amazing bang for your buck....and im not the biggest fan of modern day shimano....but for $130 for the combo that is a tough price to beat for a pond rod! The tacticalbassin guys have had good words on the SLX line too for a budget rod. That might be the move for you

This is a really good combo deal with options to pick the reel ratio, rod action and length. And free shipping.
