My power steering to the left stopped working today on the lake. It will turn right just fine but making a left ( down on the heel) takes my entire bodyweight. I can still control it with the remote fine turning both ways. Spotlock and everything else seems to be fine. It takes minimal force on the toe side but I'm literally jumping on the heel to get it to move that way. Anyone had this issue?

When mine did that it was the cable binding - I forced it and the cable snapped.

Yes, sensor board went out in the foot pedal. I am on my third one. It’s an Easy fix and will probably be covered under warrant. They have redisigned the board now so once you get a new one you should be good to go.

Sensor board. $98 on Amazon and takes about 20-30 minutes to install. You’ll need a small set of wire cutters to remove the zip ties and a Phillips screwdriver.

I'm wondering if I need to replace mine too. Last weekend, just before a tournament of course, my foot pedal locked down in the toe down position and wouldn't move. When I powered it off I could move the foot pedal again but as soon as I turned it on the front of the pedal slammed down and wouldn't move. The motor that turns the unit left was stuck in the on position and wouldn't stop without cutting the power. I took the pedal apart and jiggled a bunch of wires and luckily got it working again, but killed the first hour of the tournament doing this. I certainly don't want that to happen again.

Side note: did they use enough [censored] screws to put the base plate on? 4 would have been enough, but there's like 37 damn screws on there. Try getting them all off in the dark while bouncing up and down in the boat on a windy morning. That was a true test of patience, and I failed.

I had this happen.last weekend, quick search and Ken Smith has a youtube video with the guys at Jones trolling motor on how to repair. Quick call to Jones trolling motor on thursday and part was delivered Saturday. Foot pedal position sensor.

Did they make them better starting with the mega DI models or the u2 models

Overkill on the Phillips screws. Specially when you screw the pedal down to the pedal tray.

If your sensor acted up once, replace it. Jiggling that thing doesn’t fix it. The original design has a thin, exposed ribbon cable that is designed to malfunction. The version 2 sensor is fully encased in an epoxied case, virtually eliminating the sensor failure.

Yeah I'm sure it'll work fine until the next time I'm fishing a tournament. That's when it'll start acting up again. I'm definitely going to replace the sensor.

Update - Talked to several shops this morning all of them confirmed its the steering sensor. Will be covered under warranty. Thanks for the input, hopefully i can have it going before the weekend

My sensor went out on Thursday of the official practice for the US Open Qualifier at Ray Roberts. Needless to say I went into panic mode trying to find one. Ended up driving out to Sartin Marine at Lake Fork. Those guys were great, fixed it in 20 minutes with new sensor. I think the new sensor is supposed to be more durable but we'll see.
