Anyone have a home mosquito spray system? Thoughts, tips, costs, recommendations? We spend a lot of time outside and every year we talk about doing something. I think its time. Our exterminator said he can service our house with the fogger (and it works great) but the results go away as soon as any rain comes in. Looking for something more permanent. We are also concerned with what kind of chemicals are used and if there is anything that is friendly/non toxic that actually works.

have had one here at the ranch for about 4 yrs. now, they work good but leave a film on anything and everything. set it to go off about every 3-4 hrs during your outdoor time and 3 or 4 times during the night when the skeeters are active, shut off during heat of day.

the stuff I use is pretty non toxic and available at tractor supply. also works great in a hand sprayer inside for insects.

We have one. It's serviced by Mosquito Nix. They insist that their preset times are ideal (6am/7am and 9pm/11pm), but I found ourselves still getting bit. I now will push the spray button probably like 2 or 3 times throughout the morning, especially when the breeze starts up around 8:30am-9:30am and it does a lot better, like no mosquitoes at all after that. I'll also hit the button a couple times when the sun starts setting, maybe around 5-5:30pm if they're playing outside in the evening. A slight breeze really helps getting it stirred up.

We live on a greenbelt and my middle kid is severely allergic to mosquitoes. Instead of spraying him down everyday with OFF, we just use the mist system in the back yard and it does good. I was getting ready to return the damn thing last summer because it wasn't working with the preset times. This year so far, I've been spraying the hell out of it and it's made a huge difference.

The spray solution they use is supposed to be natural and nontoxic, probably safer for you than the kung flu vaccine.

Front yard is a mosquito warzone. Wish we could have a spray system out there.

They come out every month, refill the tank, spray the yard with a fogger/blower, change out any nozzles and will add more nozzles or change them around should you notice an area that isn't getting the right amount of spray.

If you have a system that mists you are wasting your time by putting it on a timer.

I use one of the small hand held propane models and it works if you wait till there is no wind at all. That way the mist stays in the bush, in the grass or in the area minutes instead of seconds.
Anytime its above a whisper is too windy to fog with my system.

I use Black Flag. It has no long term affect so if your neighborhood is filled with the nasty creatures the affect from fogging one home can be short lived.

We actually signed up today with a Mosquito Shield franchise (owned by one of our good friends). They're going to come out every 10 or so days and spray for like 6 months for $600. Reviews online sound like it works pretty good. Bunch of our neighbors got it also, so we're hoping there's power in numbers. They're already big and in numbers around here this year.

Skeets are vicious in the marsh. Especially after Harvey, it was unbearable, big nasty black suckers that would eat you through a pair of FR jeans. Off? Pfffft, they just thought it was brisket rub.

What DID work and still works, I spray the yard and foliage once a month if dry, once a week if it's been flooding (like now) with Bifen XTS. Cleans them out like a champ. And fire ants, and whatever vermin dare cross the line.

I bought a backpack blower/mister 2 years ago. I buy commercial grade chemicals from Doyourown.com. I use Talstar, ExciteR and CyzmicCS in the sprayer. I also lay down Talstar granules in the yard. I spray at least every 2 weeks. If it rains, I spray weekly. Usually spray on Friday afternoons. I should spray in the morning or later evening, but my blower is really loud and I don’t want to tick off neighbors. The chems work, but we have a pool and it attracts mosquitos. We still have them but they aren’t as bad as they were before.

Wife uses Gold Bond Healing lotion and the mosquitoes never bother here.

I have a neighbor that installed a misting system on his house, shop, & boathouse.

I don’t know what the cost was though.

Thanks for all the responses. After some research, I have decided to get a backpack sprayer. This will allow me to cover the whole yard (~3/4 acre) more effectively (cost and coverage). Looking at the Stihl 430 mister now.
