So....they were biting the fire craw and zoom blaze z craw trailer.....WHY wouldnt they bite my texas rig with my owner red hooks?

Where does everyone stand on the red hook idea/debate? Has anyone just greased them...or had a noticeable difference in bites using red hooks? I did...i wasnt catching with red hooks....switched back to my academy hooks and caught some. Different parts of the day/conditions....but definitely didnt help with my confidence in those red worm hooks after the regular hooks caught while the reds didnt.

Red turns gray after so many feet down....depending on light penetration

I don't use them though and other than watermelon red I don't throw red plastic

I have not seen any difference in using them or not.

Try some green pumpkin hooks. Green pumpkin just works.

I am confident with them, but it's me. Also, after a few fiH the gold comes through!

It might make a difference on moving baits, especially front treble hooks.

Haven’t seen it make a difference with slow presentations like trig or jig.

There’s been a few times when I couldn’t catch em on a worm unless I had the red hook, other than that I can’t say they make a big difference. Now putting a red treble on the front of a crankbait IMO makes a noticeable difference. At least where I fish.

Like Hula popper said a red hook on the front of a crankbait, two red hooks on a super spook , and a single red hook on a frog all seem to improve my hookups.,

Have you actually seen that, or just guessing??????? I have caught fish in 28 ft of water on a redbug shad worm so whatever color is seems to them it still works. You are loosing out if you don't think red soft plastics work. I use redbug, redbug shad, cherry seed and red shad all the time and catch fish on them. If you choose to believe red doesn't work that is up to you. LOL just keep believing that.

They bit the fire craw this week...so I decided to try out the red hooks! Didnt work out....and I did get bit later in the day using a regular hook 🤦â€â™‚ï¸

Im debating giving them another shot. Im sure they dont get seen as much on dragging baits since they are covered by the soft plastic

Do you throw them all the time or under certain conditions?

I put em on the front hook of all my traps and crankbaits. I would guess about 80% eat the red hook, which translates to a lot more fish staying buttoned up.
Stopped using them for my soft plastics, because when the red paint wears off, the exposed part of the hook is a shiny gold color.

I just made that ish up huh??

"The longest wavelengths, with the lowest energy, are absorbed first. Red is the first to be absorbed, followed by orange & yellow. The colors disappear underwater in the same order as they appear in the color spectrum. Even water at 5ft depth will have a noticeable loss of red."

It's common knowledge I thought......I also didn't say one word about working or not working....just said that I don't throw much red.....

I always use a red hook on my weightless applications. May just be a confidence thing for me but I feel like it makes a difference with my senkos and flukes

I throw a fluke on a weighted red hook, no issues that I’ve noticed so far but that’s where the res ends for me.

Look at technological angler. Good read. There was another article by the late Ken Cook, I believe, but I can't find it, on line color. Surprisingly, his findings claimed red line is the first color they cannot distinguish after approx 4 ft of depth.Something to do with light refraction in their eyeballs. Although his findings were supposedly scientific, his last statement in the article was,"Until we catch a bass that can talk, we really don't know"
