Oldest was driving when she was 12. Never an issue. Youngest not so much. They are very different. Youngest is so anxious I don’t know if I’ll be able to get through it. If I yell slow down slow down she liable to floor it. It turns in to a real rodeo if I yell. I am working on it.

When do you start letting them drive? I think my friends and I were 7th/8th grade when dad's started letting us drive dirt roads or take the boat trailer from the cabin to the ramp or vise versa. What a fun time, driving was so much more enjoyable then.

If there was some way to have the windshield turn what your looking at into a video game, kids these days could probably drive a vehicle with ease at the very 1st attempt of getting behind the wheel

1. I agree with the original post 2. I teach high school, and "driving" is the least of the difficulties, but it is difficult 3. I sometimes hang with a woman friend who is 62, and I've been trying to teach her how to drive a 5-speed. --It's NOT easy!

my wife taught are oldest. he has wrecked almost everything he has owned. I taught the youngest. He's only had one wreck, and it was the other parties fault.
I learned on a tractor and farm truck, Probably had more driving experience than the driving instructor we had in Drivers Ed. He would take naps when it was my turn to drive.

One of the ONLY times I ever heard my wife drop a "f" bomb was when she was teaching our daughter to drive and she backed over a curb. I couldn't help but laugh, which made them both mad and suddenly I was the bad guy again. Oh well.

I was a driving instructor for our local BMW club street survival school for teens many years ago. I highly recommend all parents send their kids to this school which is usually on the weekend in a city near you. This will teach your teens many things that you might not know. We also had an adult version. After taking this class you can show your insurance company and most will give a discount on your yearly premium. I no longer due instruction due to my crappy eyesight and my patience is not what it used to be. https://streetsurvival.org/

Seems kids these days are not as able to do things that are basic. I cannot really remember any kids when I was learning to drive (early 80's) that struggled too badly. Now days seems like most have major struggles with something that is not that complicated.

Now try being a flight instructor. Yeah. There were several times my instructor looked like he said a little prayer after we landed. Lol.

I learned at 10 years. Dad was the traveling sales guy. He burned up the highway every week. One summer, he takes me along on a trip, we started in Dallas, headed to El Paso.
He had one of those big boat chevy station wagons with a 427. It would move on down the road. 1968. We get to Big Spring, he's tired. Want to drive? Oh heck yes. He moves the seat up, driving instructions were simple, put the hood ornament in the center of the lane. Don't go past 80, and don't run us out of gas.
Climbs in the back seat and racks out.

Climbs in the back seat and racks out. You drove a huge 60's model station wagon on the highway at 10 years old? And with no prior driving experience? You're an OG

In my day, Dad would throw me the keys and send me on errands. Hell, I drove company trucks when I was 14. Of course, it was a completely different world then.
My kids took to it pretty easy. We lived in the country so there was plenty of room to ride and train.

I was 10 the first time I was allowed to drive. My father wanted me to pull the work truck up at a jobsite. There was a trailer attached to haul a DitchWitch...Well, I didn't know you were supposed to raise the ramps onto the trailer before moving the truck, so that didn't end well for me. We had a wreck on 4/29/85 and my mom, sister, and I were seriously injured. I hated being in a vehicle after that. In order to get me to calm down, my parents taught me how to drive. After that first 'lesson' Mom took over for the most part. Joshua was a lot smaller back then...I've been driving the local roads by myself since I was 12, on the highways at 14. It's funny when Mom yells at me when we're going somewhere together...I always remind her....YOU'RE the one that taught me to drive!!!
