I was bored and drove out to Medina Lake just to explore. Came to the Bandera County Park first. Am I missing something here? It appears to be a boat launch, and that's it. Note even people swimming. I don't see any roads leading around the lake or trails or people fishing. The parks website says all area outside the park is private property. Is this park just for watersports? I must me missing something.

I came expecting to hike several miles around the lake and perhaps find some good fishing spots for the future. Can I get some tips from experienced people?

Nope, private land like most of Texas is. You need to find a state park, Guadalupe River state park has quite a bit of walking area. Couple walking parks near San Antonio, but the names escape me right now. Probably get mugged there anyways, I’d stick with state parks.

Medina lake unfortunately has little access. There is at least one resort open to the public, but you have to pay. Yes the park appears to exist mainly to launch boats and isn't pretty, but plenty of people swim there, mostly kids though. You should check out canyon lake, it has way more access and some of it is free. Canyon is harder to find fish in though from what I've seen and what others say, but it's beautiful.

Yeah it was a pretty barren landscape but the water looked great. There is a little lake just to the northwest of Medina that looked amazing. Called Diversion Lake or Division Lake. Like something you see on a postcard or a puzzle. The sign said no fishing though.
