This is about to win the “dumbest question of the week” award.

I just a put an echoMap 73sv chirp on my boat for a bow graph. I’ve never had a transducer on the trolling motor.

Is it okay to be running across the lake with the unit on and transducer still running? I’ve heard a few times that having a transducer running out of water for too long can damage it, not sure how true that is

I just don’t wanna mess anything up, thanks!

Shortens the life of the transducer. Shouldn't do it.

By how much? My original HDS gen one has been on the boat since 2004 and still works. 3-4 days a week4-9 hours each time. I never put it in standby.

I think the life of the transducer far exceeds the life of the screen and it’s technical use/support.

Goodness, I've been running depth finders all day long since the Super 30 without issues caused by not turning the front depth finder off every time I switched spots.

So what do you do?

I don’t think there’s a “standby” that I recall on Garmin units

Listen to Steez, he knows things......

Speaking for LOWRANCE units, I think Lowrance put the standby mode on their units for a reason. I am not sure I know what that reason is but I always put the unit (2 units on my boat) that I am not using in the standby mode. It may be possible that the stand-by mode is simply a battery saving mode and most DF's use more energy than you might think.

Have 2 Lowrance's at the console and put them on standby when I stop to fish. Garmin 93SV up front is turned on at the ramp and turned off when I get back to the ramp. Never turn it off.
