136 is a touch high, but that is not bad. That’s what I was thinking, sounds like they have an agenda. My doctor doesn’t flinch unless I’m in the 140 range then she looks at me and asks what’s going on. I also started taking T shots and this has lowered my BP a lot, now I’m in the 120 to low 130 range and all is good. Also lost close to 40lbs.

I walk about two miles, five days a week and take a 5 mg amlodopine twice a week. Works for me, I'm 65.

Mine has been pretty low since getting a cut on my arm that nicked the artery and lost about 40% of my blood volume. I wouldn't recommend trying that. LOL!
My wife always has high blood pressure at the doctors office. They had her take hers at home 4 times a day for a couple weeks and then turn in the record of it to show what her blood pressure normally is. It was much lower at home than it ever is at the doctors office.
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

A couple of things on B/P that I can relay I think.
140/90 is the definition of hypertension (HTN)
136/88. The 136 is pressure in the pipes when the big chamber of the heart is contracting and is indicative of peak pressure (systolic pressure) on the pipes. The 88 is the heart at rest (diastolic pressure) and gives a snapshot of the condition of the pipes (arterial blood vessels).
There is also the condition of anxiety at the doc's office called "white coat syndrome" and most providers take this into account.
What I recognize when I look at the number you provided is the 88 is too high. You didn't provide your age but if older then your pipes are getting stiff and not as elastic as they once were. That's the explanation. There's lots of problems associated with chronic or long term HTN.
If it were me I'd invest in an at home monitor and start the recommended meds ASAP. You can start your program to reduce weight and salt in your diet at the same time. Too much salt attracts water which increases the fluid amount in the pipes thus less fluid less pressure. The doc may also start you on a diuretic to make your body release fluid. Do all this. Get those reading down a soon as you can.
I've been on HTN meds since around 50 years old and I'm 67. Keep your pressures down and you'll be healthier in old age.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Try taking your own BP. Buy one of those Omron blood pressure monitors. Mine often runs a little high at the Docs office, cause I'm wondering what is next on their agenda. Will my blood pressure be high? Will my cholesterol be high? Do I have the Chiner Flu? What is that gizmo on the desk? Why am I sitting on butcher paper? What tiime is it? Who is that nurse, she looks pretty hot? Look, I can see down her top some. What is going on in the next room? How much do my clothes add to my weight? I have the Omron and it is pretty spot on with reading I get at the DR office. I took it with me and took my BP before a couple of appointments and it was a super close match.

This is what I take, the lowest mg they make. Been taking it for 10 years. I'm now 60 and blood pressure is always in check unless I flip over to the bunker. Not that bigga deal to flip a pill in your throat every morning along with my non-drowsy antihistamine and spray of flonase. Every morning, whether I need them or not.....

Exactly, my blood pressure is always higher at the doctors office than at home. Sometimes known as the white coat syndrome. Doctor says his BP does the same when he sees his doctor. He said he normally allows for a ten point difference just to account for this. He had me take it at different times of the day over a period of a few days and bring him the results to get an accurate account of what its running.

Eat oatmeal daily for a week.
If your BP is elevated due to your diet, this will make it drop by a handful of points. If it is genetics it won't help much, but oatmeal is tasty so really it's a winner either way.

my wife has high blood pressure --- the Dr's are always trying to get her on more medicine . I believe meds just lead to more meds . In Europe they don't even start calling it high blood pressure until your up in the 150's and 160's . Only in America do they start pushing pills when you get to 130's and 140's . She has started a twice daily regimen of beet root pills , along with daily exercise and losing some weight . Once she gets her second Phizer shot , she's going to try acupuncture . We have an acupuncturist that is amazing . I had crazy bad piriformis syndrome from my lower back to my left knee ---one visit and zero pain .

My last visit to the doc was bp 132/85. But my pulse was 120. I think i got the white cape syndrome myself. Oh well, everything will kill you, pick something fun

In no particular order:
1. Reduce sodium intake. Obvious things are chips, fast food, frozen dinners, and canned soups but you'll find it in everything. You'd be surprised. 2. Grind up flax seed and sprinkle over the oatmeal. A small coffee grinder works. Don't get the pre-ground stuff. 3. Do cardio, things that raise your heart rate. There are all kinds of things you can do at home: wind sprints, burpees, mountain climbers, jump rope, etc. 4. Flush free niacin. This should be good for 5 pts by itself but it depends on how you feel about taking a pill. 5. Breathing and relaxation exercises. 6. Don't fish during big bass events on Fork or Sam Rayburn. :-D
