The last three trucks have been crew cabs and not one of the rear seats was ever used. Thinking about a regular cab, long bed GMC (or Ford). This would be a tow rig that sees about 4-6K a year.

Crew cab long bed might ride a bit better, but I rarely use it empty. Also, better trim packages available in the crew.....torn here.

What sayeth the brethren?

They used to be a lot cheaper. If they are I'd say go for it. I haven't had a regular cab since '04, but my back seat is almost always full of some kind of junk.

Had my current truck since 1999, it's a standard cab. It's just my wife and I and I have a topper on the back, so don't need rear seats of a crew cab.

I have a crew max and rarely use the space for anything but storage. I had a couple long bed single cab Chevy's. I don't want to unload everything a long bed will hold these days. Heck I don't want to unload everything my 5.5' bed will hold these days LOL. If it weren't for the occasional trip with four adults I'd have another king cab with the 6.5" bed. That seems to be a great balance of dry storage and bed length.

My bed is always full of ice chests and other related camping goods. Sometimes, the standard bed is completely full. Also, resale isn't an issue if I lease.

I wouldn't personally... That's why I went for a crew cab with an 8' bed... You can never have too much... Dan

I’ve been considering a regular cab long bed for work. Hard to find one that’s not completely stripped and white anymore.

Seems you have to order everything now.

I had to order mine back in 1999 to get what I wanted. Maybe why I still have it.

Dodge has the most room behind the seat

Interesting question. I have a small fleet of commercial cab and chassis trucks, but they are commercial trucks all pulling floats all the time. Just did a little auto trader search and man, there doesn’t seem to be much of a discount to get a single cab truck, at all.

Most of us in our 50’s or older all grew up with single cab trucks and they were fine for an eight year old to ride in the bed back and forth to the beer joint in. However, for my money, I’d have to buy a super cab or crew cab just for the “in case I need it” unless I can cut several thousand dollars off the purchase price.

I've always thought that the Chevy short and wide was the best looking truck and drove one for years. The last two I've bought were extended cabs and they might not look as good but I do find them more functional. On a longer trip they are more comfortable especially for the passenger and if the weather goes bad you can put your luggage in the back seat. My next one will be a crew cab Cuz I'm not sure they still make an extended cab. I think a lot of those single cabs are equipped with 6 cylinder engines and that ain’t gonna work for me.

The single cab short beds hold their value over time. I look for those to be the next collectors. A buddy of mine has a single cab short box GMC...maybe a 2016? He says people try and buy it from him all the time. Just not enough room for me.

Very few rebates at all. Difference between identically equipped RCLB and CCLB is about 5K, give or take. The CCLB is 22' and the RCLB is 19'. Small weight savings, which would help shave a few bucks off the excessive registration fees. For reference, my 2019 GMC 1500 crew was $749 to register this year.
