I'm looking at a boat with a 1998 200 HP Johnson outboard. Cant find any info on this motor. Does anyone have any idea on this motor if it is a good motor / dependable? Also can you still get parts for this motor if needed?

i run a 1996 175 with no problems. I did remove the oil unit and just mix oil with gas.

Learn how to start in in cold weather! Those ole loopers are cold natured as all get out! Other than that they seem to hold up as good as any and better than some.

I’ve been running a 98 150 Johnson for about 5 years. It’s plenty good. Actually only a little louder than a 4 stroke. It only had 50 hrs on it when I got it but somewhere around 700 now. Oil injection is still hooked up and working fine. Parts are usually readily available online aftermarket and most are available OEM. I had to replace the lower unit last year after finding a cracked housing. I have a few spare parts laying around if someone needs something. Check compression on any used motor you are thinking of buying always. If you run it in the winter or it sits more than 2 weeks you will probably have to push the primer on the key switch a couple times before it will start. Good luck.
