My HVAC can use either the regular 1" filters, or the extra wide 4" filters. Lots of allergies in my house, so I generally buy the good 1" filters that last about 3 months. Is it worth it to get the extra thick ones?

Do they perform better?

How long do they last?

Is there a cost benefit?

Unless your doors and windows are sealed up airtight, buying a 4 inch ac filter wonโ€™t do any good. They air the ac pulls in to cool down has to come from somewhere and not all of it goes through the filter.

This, but I change mine every 30 days.

Also, try brushing the roof of your mouth when you're brushing your teeth...shower when you come in from outside for the day and blow your nose while your running water down your face. I have to do this after mowing and during cottonwood season...keeps my allergies at bay, thank God.

Ever Pure makes the best filter on the market. It is one you take out and wash. It is made for folks with allergens. Yes it is Pricey I think around 100 bucks. If you have really bad allergies I would suggest a Air purifier and install one inside Supply Plenum and install the Bulb Purifier inside coil. Problem solved and your wife will love you for it because she will never have to dust again,

1" filters are 30 day, 2" are 60 day summer and 90 day winter, and 4" filters are 6 month filters.

These are what I buy for ours, I set a reminder on my phone that automatically reminds me every 3 months. I'll sometimes change them before if they look like they need it but with a rumba running the they stay somewhat clean.

I change our 1" filters every three months and every 45 days during the summer months.
Makes no sense to change filters every month when our units rarely run during the cooler Fall and Spring months. coolio

I buy the 20x20x4 Filtrete filters but have been thinking about going with a 1" electrostatic filter along with a 2" HEPA filter.
I replace the 4" filter every six months which is what the contractor recommended. I figure with the electrostatic filter being cleaned every month or so, the 2" filters should last for 4 to 6 months before I replace them. Anyway that will be the experiment.

We all get allergies pretty bad. We just took out all the carpet and replacing it with vinyl plank flooring.

We are talking air filters, not underwear.

Mine also. I have tried the washable ones and tge more expensive ones but I noticed they cut down on the air flow. I have little dust in my area. If I lived in a dusty area I would use a different filter.

I use two 4-inch filters each year, one for the 5 hot months and one for the seven cool months.
