Been reading about these cameras. Would they work in our local lakes (like Lewisville)? Can someone shed some information on the disadvantages of these devices? I understand that visibility would be an issue in dirty water. Would they work?

Yes they work. Yes the visibility is horrible in our area lakes. If you think you can see a bright bait down to about 1', you would maybe be able to see about 2" at any decent depth. Had one a while back. Sold it. I guess it also depends on what you're wanting to find. Now if I had one now to use in combination with my Humminbird Side Image, that might be purdy neato.

Hey Jay, When it all comes down to it, all these fancy thing-a-majigs that we call tools are really just toys. And some of them toys are just neat.

There is one at the barge. Go ask em to show you. I've used one and its fun and beneficial if you are fishing on the bottom for catfish or rough fish. Otherwise, not so much.

I've seen them used, they are very cool when the water clarity allows you to see more then a few feet!

harbor freight has one for $99... even on Eagle Mountian when it was VERY clear.... you had to basically be bumping the structure to see it. I sold mine, but now wish I had kept it to verify what I am looking at on my side imaging sonar. I may just buy one of the Harbor frieght units... truthfully probably the same camera used on the expensive brands....

I have one an use it occasionally. It is an early model and does not have the directional indicator on the screen. I have used it at Athens and fork and have had some success. Basically use it to verify the type of structure, presence of bait, and presence of bass. I like to use it when I am fishing structure in deep water.
