I've recently acquired my first Ultrex and I haven't installed the heading sensor yet. I've been told that it's only funstion is the jog feature. My problem is that my spot-lock will not stay locked for more than a few minutes. Does the heading sensor actually work to keep the boat positioned while in spot-lock or is there something else I'm missing? I got the motor used and don't have any info on it. I'm sure I can't be the only one that's dealt with this. Someone please enlighten me!

Heading sensor only for.jog function. I didn't install it on my previous boat and did not have issues.

Heading sensor is a compass. if there is anything near the foot control that could restrict the movement when the front goes all the way down it will beep and kick out of spot lock. My power cable sometimes gets in the way. Check to make sure nothing is in the way. The manual states the sensor must be installed, and you need to do the calibration where you turn the boat in a circle. I have the ipilot link version, but both use it. The TM might not know which way to turn.

The calibration helps the spot lock accuracy if i am not mistaken.

I'm on my 3rd board sometimes when you are spot locked it will just start floating off but the unit shows that it is in spot lock but the wind is blowing you off your spot and you have to reset it again. still happening. I also had the other issue where it would beep then turn off, but found out that my extra rolled up cable was getting under the peddle that was causing that issue.

You have to calibrate it with the remote. If the foot pedal moves any at all, spot lock will turn off. Make sure the cable isn't moving the foot pedal.

If you have a TM pedal recess make sure there is no binding or rubbing. Any obstruction with the movement of the pedal will kill Spot Lock.

This. If anything gives the pedal any resistance when moving up and down, spotlock will turn off. The culprit for me was the velcro strap that holds it down when stowed. The wind would blow the strap under the front of the pedal, and that was enough resistance to turn it off. I tuck it under a cable now and no issues.

As for the sensor, I would highly recommend installing it. The jog feature makes it so much easier to move around. Instead of engaging the pedal to turn off spot lock, then moving to where you want to be, and then turning spot lock back on- you can just tap the button on the remote a few times and then keep fishing while the boat changes position. Very handy when fishing docks or offshore structure.
