Not to step on the post of the new lake but why are new lakes not being built below Austin? I never have figured out why one has not been built on the San Marcos River. It runs all year long and would take no time to fill. It could also be used as a water source from Austin to San Antonio instead of relying on the under ground water. Seems it would be better to catch that water instead of just letting it flow into the gulf.

I agree that more needs to be done. I believe most are oblivious to the water crisis that we have been facing, and have not even begun to consider how the population boom (another issue) is going to make things worse. My wife has a very close friend in the state political system that oversees this type of stuff, and she/they seem to think things are OK. They have no problem drawing lakes (e.g., Travis) down to nothing and worrying about it then (when it is too late) -- needless to say, I don't agree. At least the LCRA has been trying (poorly) to get the Arbuckle Reservoir on-line, to catch water near the rice farmers (<https://www.lcra.org/news/update-on-the-arbuckle-reservoir/>). But, it is already late by 4 years, way overbudget, and the problems seem to continue with very minimal insight/updates.

Also, no need for increased park or recreation spaces now that you can just camp on the sidewalks in downtown Austin --- you'll get a thumbs-up from the Mayor while washing your clothes in a water fountain! Not trying to side-track the thread, but more to the point of politicians with priorities in the wrong place is another reason.

The SM river empties into the Guadalupe close to Gonzalez. I imagine the farmers down south use a lot of the water as it moves towards the Gulf. By the time it empties into the SA bay its just a trickle.

Like everything else down there concerning water, bring up a new lake and there will be a lawsuit and water rights will become an issue.

I was thinking about making a similar post the other day. I agree that the land prices have to be a huge issue and finding land that isn’t overly populated already. Sure wish they’d figure something out though, before it’s completely too late.

Any of you fellas remember what the situation with the AppleWhite reservoir that San Antonio tried and failed at? I was a bit too young to pay attention back then.

I will say, most of the tent cities I see around Austin are nicer than some of the fishing camps I've stayed at over the years.

From a strictly selfish point of view, for fishing purposes only, I want more lakes to be built around Houston. A few 1,000 acre bodies of water would be just fine with me.

But......follow the money.

I was just being a smart azz. It is terrible seeing them under every overpass as you drive down 183, I35, etc. Some have some big azz tents set up though.
