My good dog Oskar had to have some teeth removed today. His breath was real bad and had tons of tartar. I probably should not have let it get this bad. They say he is doing ok but I can’t go get him until later this afternoon. They had to remove more than they thought they were going to have to so I hope he will still be able to eat ok. He was having real bad sneezing fits and would blow really foul smelling snot everywhere. This should help fix that. They said he had a lot of infection going on. I kind of feel real bad about letting it get this bad. I hope he doesn’t hate me when I pick him back up. I wonder what the bill will be?

Vets are 10x what they should charge.
Dentist is 15x what they shod charge.
A vet doing dental will be 25x ...
You will need another job

Get well soon Oskar!!!

For the record, neither foul smelling snot being blown everywhere, nor dachshund halitosis was ever an issue before you forced that kitten onto the scene. Oskar’s smart enough to make that connection too.

In conclusion, if I was Oskar, and I could talk, after you picked me up and we got in the car...and you looked at me with sympathy and tried to comfort me, I would give you a cold eat s look and snarl, “Yeah well hope you like that f-ing cat!” at you.

Sorry to hear this.

Big fear with my dogs. I pay extra for the rip off "plan" that includes dental cleaning every six months. And they always are like "Oh no they look good, she does not need it this time.."

And I am like, "Yes. Thanks for that. However I am asking you to do that... its in the plan for 2x a year... thanks!"

My dog is really out of it for two days though after they knock her out. Like she dont know where she is at. She comes back to normal after about 48 hours.

They told me not to be surprised if he can’t keep his tongue in his mouth for a while until he gets used to it.

The vet called to let me know I can come pick him up. I asked if his tongue is sticking out still and they said he gained control over it again.

Sounds like he really had some deep infection going on.

Sadly we just don’t think that doggie dental is just as important as human dental and bad dental hygiene in dogs can lead to all kinds of health issues. That said, I hope Oskar is doing better. Our little wire haired Doxie, Gunnar was put down Thanksgiving week and I’m positive it was due in part to us not paying close enough attention to his teeth. He has a good life though. Seventeen when he passed due to hear complications.

Mud - my dog also had bad breath and my vet recommended Oxyfresh water treatment (you can get it from Amazon). It has helped a bunch and acts like a mouthwash for dogs/cats. Just mix two capfulls of the bottle in 2L of water.
