The Remington 870 has been around FOREVER (I was born in 1945 and it came along in 1950), and may be the most dependable shotgun ever made IMO. I still prefer an automatic like the 1100, but that pump-action model is 1st choice for lots of folks. Most people don't know that some of the parts are interchangeable between the 870 and the 1100.

That's interesting, I'm one that wasn't aware of that fact and have had much experience with both. Thank You for sharing.

I have one that I bought at Gibsons in 1970 with money from my paper route. I was a duck hunter in my early days so it has been through hell. Covered in mud, submerged in water, and frozen firing pin. I have replaced the shell ejectors and a firing pin. It sits in the closet these days. I don't shoot it any longer.

I have had my 870 magnum for 30 years great gun for squirrel hunting in South Arkansas for sure

I have a old auto Remington, not the 1100 it looks like a Browning, That has been has dependable as my brownings. Remington made some of the best guns for years.

Wish I still had my 870 pump 12 ga. Got it for a birthday present back in the late 60's. When I got out of Basic and Tech School and was heading for my first base I learned that my parents had sold both mine and my dad's. Lot of good memories dove and quail hunting with my dad using that shotgun.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

I would doubt anything this guy reviews after hearing him trash the ruger 10/22 as not being reliable, the model 12 winchester or any number of other pump guns are just as good or better than the 870,I have owned lots of remington 1100s and liked them well enough but prefer the way a browning comes to my shoulder,my grandson is shooting an 870 youth model now and so will his little brother a few years from now,and its was likely the first wing gun for many of us,but it is just one of many good pump guns out there, and each person will usually end up using the gun they are most comfortable shooting and the most accurate with, for me thats not the 870.

I also have an 870 that's served me well. Used it for hunting, shooting clay pigeons. Never had a problem with it. Also have an 1100 that was built back in the day by scatter gun technologies and later got bought by Wilson Combat. Also reliable and no problems.

When I die my nephews will get them and I'll bet they go for another 40 years or more....:)

My Dad took me to Gibson's on my 14th birthday and bought me a 12 ga 870 Wingmaster.
