There has been some small sandbass schooling at mid lake in 25-30ft. South of 155. No particular reason for them to be where they are, except for bait. Most of the shad seem to be from the surface down to 8ft. Have not seen any hybrids schooling the times I have been but if you see the smaller schoolies you can get some bigger ones underneath with the occassional hybrid.

Saturday evening 5pm-7:30pm fished Cherokee point and caught 10 hybrid. All over 21" but one. Caught them on slabs on bottom 20'. We did have surface schooling between us and the shore when they came up we would pick up 5 or 6 big sandies before they would go down again. The shad they were feeding on were very small each fish you caught would have 4 - 5 in their mouth.

stealth I not sure of Cherokee pt. either. There is a ramp by the dam and close to it used to be an island on the east side. The ramp they called Cherokee Ramp. I figure that is where he is referring. There is 20 ft of water and if you go further out it runs into a channel. North from there would be Chimney creek and I know of no 20ft of water on that pt. unless your 15ft from it.

Cherokee Point is the point on the opposite side of the horse farm point on the east side. There is a private boat ramp just to the south east of where I'm talking. If you look on a Lake Palestine map it lists it as Cherokee Point. You can see the spilway just to the south , but still pretty far away. Currently there is a large string of trot line that runs along the point north to south. These jugs are sitting at 22' and we have been fishing 20' or so from them toward the shore. I think this is a consistent spot because the river bends in this area. Hope this helps, let me know if you have success.

There is a point about 1/3 of the way between that ramp ( I call it Cherokee landing) and Stone Chimney creek. It forms a underwater ridge you can follow all the way to the river channel. 20 ft would put you well out into the lake. I have caught a lot of fish there. Mo

I know what ya mean I had to break down and get one of those waterproof models from Wallyworld. I wonder if it would help to got to Lone Star Lakes.com and plot the longitude/latitude on their map?

OK , so that is Cherokee point. That strech of 20 ft water from there to the mouth of Mayo creek holds a lot of fish in the fall. One of my favorite slabin' areas.

Sorry for the confusion, I didn't have my map with me when I gave directions. When I click on the topo map on Lone Star Lakes link I see we were located between where it says marker 356 and the double EE letters in Cherokee Co. So in fact this is south of Cherokee point. Between Cherokee Point and the Point out from Chimney Cove. I always know where to stop between the red boat house and what we call the butterscotch color boat house out to 20-25' This has turned out to be a treasure hunt. Anyway, this has been my only consistent summer spot over the years, don't know why? If anyone fishes this area over the next few weeks I would love a report, I will be Northern Pike fishing in North western Michigan for the next few weeks and feel bad leaving the hybrids all alone.

Question: Is there a way to convert on Lonestarlakes.com the GPS coords from 94.888888888 deg to 94 30.678 ? My GPS has the last format type on on it. Yes, I know there are conversion sites out there.
Re: Topwater activity - Tuesday morning small hybrids 10" and several 12-14" sandys schooling 6:30-8:30 am along the southshore of the island out from the Highsaw/Ledbetter creek. I went looking for bigger fish - no luck in the area. I guess I'll just have to hunt up an ultralight outfit.
BTW: What is the official name for "The Island" south of the 155 bridge ? Should the Forum members come up with one? How about Arrowhead Island ? I've talked to people looking for them during low lake levels around the island.
Thanks The Ledbetter Legend
