Went out on April 8th and had the best day I have had on Tawakoni. There was hardly any wind so I had to use the trolling motor to drift. Ended up with 17 total, fishing deep areas of the lake to the North. I was using shad and my usual chicken. They were only hungry for the chicken though.
Water temp was about 63 degrees. I was catching them in 40+ as well as fishing ledges around 12-20 feet.
I had a love hate relationship with Tawakoni. I had my boat out there for a year or so but living in McKinney it was just too far. I could only get out there on a Saturday. That was because it took 1:20 to get there. I fished out of Tawakoni Marina which I though was good because it was centrally located on the lake. I used to go up North in the trees in upper Wichita bay or I'd go south to the dam. My PB came drifting just north of the 2 mile bridge. 56 pounds day before Thanksgiving 2018. Other than that fish, most of what I caught there were small fish. Lots of eaters. Some teeners here and there but I never could consistently get on big fish out there. Now, I've learned a lot and I think I've become a much better catfisherman than I was back then. I might have to drag my boat back there one of these days and see what I can do. But if your having success on that lake, you have accomplished something. That is not a place where you can just luck into em, at least not in my experience. Congratulations Shark99!
