I don't ever see the walking sticks out here in Weatherford. Not sure if it's a region thing or if they are like many other bugs of the past and are just not many around anymore. They are cool and kind of freaky once they get large. I guess they don't bite or sting but I never care to pick one up.

Is that a baby praying mantis ? I buy praying mantis egg cases every year and when they hatch , about a hundred come out and I put them around the garden .
They can eat a ton of the bugs I don't want .
