The little lake I fish in NW Oklahoma is 160 acres. Due to its small size, I assume the fish generally move up all over the lake at roughly the same time, versus upper end down to lower end. The lake runs SE to NW from the dam which runs north/south. This lake does not offer much in the way of protected coves. Wind blows hard on all of it, including the dam.

Anyways, as I'm trying to find pre-spawn bass and spawning bass, is the dam worth checking out in spite of the wave pounding it receives? Btw, I fish from a paddle powered kayak, so, unfortunately, I can not zip from location to location quickly. Hence the question. Also, the waves don't get very big due to the lake size so that's usually not a concern even if fighting the wind is a pain in the rear.

Absolutely they will. Caught one of my best fish off rip rap on a dam getting ready to spawn a few years ago. Went back for a couple of weeks and did well on it. What’s strange is the following year I couldn’t get a bite along it.

Thanks for all the responses!

I have caught a few bass in the summer along the dam. Just wondering if it's primarily a summer and winter hangout. Again, I appreciate everyone's comments.

Yes I have caught nice bass while fishing for crappie that spawn on the rocks around this time of the year.
