Trying my hand at Crappie this year. So I'm learning as much as possible. I plan to do some wadding ASAP in shallow areas to try and catch some over the next few weeks. However, I'm confused.m. Is it best to fish back in creeks where it's shallow or are shallow lake shorelines with heavy brush good for spawning as well?

Yes sir pound it all. Go as far as you can back in a creek and pound it work your way out and make sure you spend time in the mouth of it too.

Newbie here too. I tried a creek last weekend with minimal success. Tried jigging laydowns and only caught 2 blues, a channel and a drum.

The only success I have was reeling in a 1/8oz spinner grub past a standing stick. Caught 3 slabs out of that stick, choked full of eggs.

I looked on Google earth and put likely will check them out this weekend.

What are the probability that crappies will be in these shallow areas?

What about tactics? Jig and bobber or just vertically jigging. The longest rod I have is a 8ft pro angler rod. Will be fishing out of my kayak.

The crappie spawn is definitely not as easy as it is made out to be. When you find them, it is fun but finding them can be a pain. More times than not, it wont be productive especially if you have no experience to go off of. Crappie can be caught spawning in the creeks, coves, rip rap, laydowns etc at some point or another and they with fronts every couple of days just because they bit in one spot does not mean they will be there the next day. Best advice is to cover water and don't spend to much time in one area. If they are there they will bite fast.

I'll add that banks with over hanging trees and heavy shade usually produce well as long as they have quick sharp drop offs to 4 or 5fow...... It don't necessarily take structure in the water to hold them..... I've seen it take little too no action to entice them into attacking a jig, just give it 30secs per drop, slow raises with touching the bottom with a pause work well also...... Small coves off creeks with good depth are great places to check and areas that are not affected by current are definitely worth checking...... Move, move and move....

I beat up the bank's today by boat and they are right it can be a pain in the butt however I finally found them and it definitely paid off!!!! even though most of them were little I took home 5 nice ones for the air fryer LOL ....hope you get into them original poster

Hey thanks a lot Jessebeaux95 ... I cleaned my fish and three of them add eggs that were mushy and the two biggest crappie didn't have any eggs at all I want to say it's in the middle of the spawn... I was looking through my past videos and I was absolutely slaying the crappie after late April but each year is different especially when we have had a decent winter and it may delay the process but I'm not quite sure on that.
