Just paid for 4 years of education at UNT in Denton. Our daughter is now a teacher. The graduation ceremony they have planned is so lame that the students don't want to attend. It seems like something a grade school would put on. 1 hour of speeches from staff, no walking the stage, no name announcement, only 4 tickets per graduate[ if you don't go you can't give your tickets to some one else] that makes a ton of sense. Not sure what I paid for but they defiantly don't have a degree in common sense.. If you want to hear your name they will produce a podcast where someone will read your name online.
Our colleges are supposed to be leaders in our society. Instead they look like sheep being led to the government slaughter.
Thanks for listening to a broke parents rant. Boy our we in trouble.

My sons will be videotaped at UTD, each grad will have a 15 second video of them receiving their diploma. He’s fine with it because he’s not into the pomp and circumstance thing

Graduation ceremonies are highly overrated. I didn't attend my own. I guess I will have to go to my kids' one day, but hopefully they feel the same way I did.

Yeah, that's a little weird. We're doing in person or virtual (graduate's choice)...masks are required except in certain areas and when taking official photographs. Names will be announced, the stage will be walked, but no handshaking. So overall, pretty normal...

Got three degrees. Never went to one graduation. The piece of paper was all I was interested in.

I respect rebait’s desire for a more traditional graduation ceremony and I respect Fishlime’s approach of wanting nothing to do with it. It’s personal...I can respect it.

Graduations stink to attend, but I understand your gripe.

UNT was a liberal college before any others in Texas.
It has always been a weird liberal school.

Yeah, I've stopped attending graduations for anyone that's not actually a close blood relative. Unfortunately my twin nephews decided to attend different high schools... bang I just have one niece left to graduate from college and the nephews to graduate high school and college and then I'm finished. I also only attend the weddings of a very select few. The rest, I'll take 'em out to dinner to celebrate after they return from their honeymoon. Much more pleasant experience for all. I hate crowds and have anxiety issues mingling wth more than like 6 people at once. I can preach in front of 700 and not miss a beat, but if I've got to mingle, I'm out of there.

Graduations have become pretty impersonal with thousands in the graduating class and often limited numbers allowed to attend. We have gone to a a couple of our grandchildren's and were so far away, we could barely recognize them when they walked across the stage. Probably will not attend any more due to wife having health issues. But I can understand the frustration of those who have made big sacrifice with perhaps the first in their family to get a degree. The pandemic has made it even worse Most graduates could care less as they are ready to get out and earn some money and get on with their life.
