Via sat communications sent a $70 bill to collections. It’s a fraudulent charge. The $70 has an added $16 to it for a total of 86 and some change the Collections agency is charging.. The collections company in Ohio has dismal rating from the Better Business Bureau in that area. My question is, if I fight this what do you think I would end up paying in court? Or, should I just pay the 86 dollars and move on with life. None of our family has ever received a collections notice until now.

I believe you can dispute it on your credit report for free. Add all the detail and they research and if found fraudulent it should get dropped

I may be right there with you. Many years ago when we opened our small business we did advertising with another companies franchised office. They did a couple spots for us and we didn't continue the agreement. A couple months ago we get a bill out of the blue dated April 2009! They are billing us for about $400. It's kind of crazy as we are always up to date with our bills. So far we haven't responded.

Never ever deal with a collection agency and if some reason you pay get a written agreement containing your highest expectations. Never pay them with anything that gives them access to any account information. Insist they comply with the Fair Debt Collections Acts (state and Federal). In summary if it is not on your dad credit blow it off , they probably don’t have the identifiers to add it.

Do not pay anything.
Contact the CFPB and report the original creditor for sending fraudulent charges to a collection agency.
Little known fact the original creditor is still responsible for how the account is handled even after they've sold it or in many cases leased it to a third party debt collector.
A complaint to the CFPB is a nightmare for any business. For such a small amount they will immediately dismiss the debt and halt all collection actions.
My friend did not tell me this and I didn't read it on facebook. I was an SVP in collections for Citibank for 7 years. I'm beyond familiar with how this works.

I had a similar situation. A collection note on my credit report for a medical bill showed up 3 years after I had surgery. My Experian told me about it otherwise I would not have known. I contacted Uncle Zeek. He knows how to handle this stuff correctly. He is really good.

Call the listed creditor and ask for their fraud dept. Tell them you have never had service with them. Ask for the listed service address . I found out I had 5 TXU accounts. It went downhill from there.

Most collections agencies are a JOKE! Repo companies are another story!
