One of the points of my book, "The Art of Fishing for Records" is that not every fishing record has to be a big fish. This unrestricted yellow bass state record is a good example. After catching hundreds of yellow bass Plnor (Pole and Line No Reel) fishing, I finally landed a fish big enough to turn in as a record. Yellow Bass hybridize easily and to confirm that the fish was a pure yellow bass I took the fish to a TPWD inland fish hatchery for confirmation. Fortunately, it turned out to be a yellow bass and not a hybrid. Another species checked off my list.

Unless the picture is changing the way the fish looks, I would have thought that was a white bass and tossed it back. That might be why I don't have any records!

The fish was a nice yellow color when I brought it in, but I hooked it in the gills and it died quickly on a hot day. By the time I got the weight, length, and picture the fish lost all of its color and looked like it had been dead for hours.
