Just installed a pipe fence at the land we purchased outside of Justin. Typical 2 3/8" pipe and I'm about to prep and paint, approximately 600ft. Top rail and post only.

What's the best prep rust inhibitor and brand of paint you would use? I've got the rust knocked down with sanding pads and the welds have been gone over with a wire wheel.

I will be using a mitt to paint. Thanks

Ospho for prep. Let it dry good. Popular stuff down on the coast. I did my fence posts, didn't even bother to paint. http://www.ospho.com/directions.htm

I would wire brush all welds and heavy rust areas. Paint with ospho which removes the rust and preps the metal and it has a cure time, can't remember, like once it dries it has to be painted in 24hrs or something. I would use this special metal paint from shirwin Williams, it was expensive. I'd buy one of those car wash mitts and just wipe the pipe down. I'd rather paint my kitchen cabinets....

McCoys and Tractor Supply have a barn paint and I know McCoys will mix colors for you! I have used a ton of Hunter Green over the years and Home Depot carries it in Rustoleum. At least knock the scale off but doesnt take a lot of prep for fence posts. I used a painting mitt and threw it away every evening and got a new one the next day. Dont need a generator that way.

The paint was their "direct to metal" Alkyd Enamel.

I’ve done over 2000 feet. Tractor bucket, generator, small air compressor, spraygun with your choice of paint. You can paint all day long with this rig in a tractor bucket.

Thanks guys. Ospho is on its way and probably going to Sherman Williams for the paint. I had a GC mention that paint but also said it wasn't cheap. I hope a 5 gallon bucket will do. I'll post pics once completed.

I appreciate your input, even the good laugh from bloo_rainger.
