This will be my first time to Marshal an event. Anybody have any recommendations on where to stay? Anybody else on here gonna be there? Possibly splitting an air bnb with someone or a hotel room. Any info is appreciated.

I would not want to make one of those 2 hour boat rides that some of them could make going to Houston

Yeah I’ve never done it before so it’ll be an experience. Mainly doing to watch and learn. It might be fun or it could suck. I was planning on canceling if it was going to be in August. That would have been awful. I’ll think I’ll grab a decent hotel room and just try and make the most out of it.

What could possibly go wrong on the Sabine?

We fished the Bass Champs championship there a few years ago. We made about a 70 mile run each way each day including through Sabine Lake and Houston shipping channel. It really was not bad at all. The Red River is a LOT harder on a boat.

Plenty of hotels around that area. I would bring some ear plugs or something to cover your head if your guy is going to make that run towards Houston. Other than that just have fun

It would be fun. Just watch and learn. Listen when they talk. Try to ask questions like “why are you targeting specific depths and colors of water?” Etc. Don’t ask how. Just small talk will get you worlds of wisdom. Lead in with open ended questions.

If they don’t wanna talk....tell your gonna tell on them. roflmao

Not sure how many AirB&B's we have around here but here is my preferred list of hotels from best to least. Also listed from closest to farthest from the ramp.

Holiday Inn Express
Hampton Inn
Days Inn
LaQuinta Inn
Comfort Inn
Best Western

Iffys
Orange Inn & Suites (This place looks like Damnit outside but its been remodeled on the inside. If I was on a budget this is where I would stay, just try not to park on the wooded side of the property)
Best Texan
Studio 6

Dont's
Best Price
Executive Inn
Motel 6

Bridgecity has a nice LaQuinta and a fairly new EconoLodge but I have never been in them.

As far as getting around Orange... IH-10 is jacked up from construction but there are quite a few ways to navigate around the trouble spots. Try to avoid IH10 and 16th st/Hwy 87 intersection unless you just gotta have "The Lord's Chicken".
We have some pretty good eats in town and its crawfish season on top of that....
I know there will be additional community activities going on so bring your family down and enjoy our little corner of Texas.

Now is when I wish I would have rebuilt my garage apartment after Imelda. It would be prefect to rent out for this event.

If yall need more info just send me a PM or post it here for all to see.

A strong south wind made that run brutal the time I was there. The Sabine Lake tore the guy's boat up that I was with.
