Went down to fish for an hour, caught 2 trout around 18, and 2 reds, 16" and 17", using bass assassins. Water was mucky. I shoulda tried something noisey, but I was happy anyway. I could see some big fish, but never got into one. I thought they were ladyfish, till I caught the first red! The bait there was crazy. I could feel my lure bouncing off them as I reeled them in, and there was swarms of them jumping the surface, escaping being breakfast. It died off pretty quick, but it was a good hour, from 6 till 7am. Hopefully the same tomorrow!

Here's a pic of one of the trouties, just coz theyre pretty!

Fished again this morning. Loads of small trout and ladyfish, only 1 keeper that I actually landed. For some inexplicable reason today, the fish kept getting off the hook. Really odd. I checked it was sharp, and kept the pressure on them, but still they would just slip off. Really dumbfounded me. It was hard to distinguish what was a bite, and what was just baitfish running into my jig for a spell! It was pretty crazy.

Nowhere near the bay! If i fish near A&M, I walk south to the flats. There's also an old railway line that you can see from SPID, and a bridge on Yorktown, and some other little places in between. I rarely fish A&M as it gets too much pressure, and ocean drive is pretty barren, unless you can get near a pier. There is supposed to be a small reef as you head out by boat from Oso, into the bay. I have yet to get there to fish it though, but will try soon. There are 2 other reefs along ocean drive. I have to convert the lat/long to a gps coordinate to find them, but plan on trying soon. The one near A&M is accessable by kayak, the others not, unless you have shoulders like Arnie!

[edit] On a side note, an old timer was telling me he used to come down from gallveston to fish the reefs where the t-heads are now. He says in his day it was a great spot to catch tarpon!

Actually, I fished Oso again today, caught a number of small trouties, and a few small reds.

Look how pretty this red-minnow is! Hopefully I'll catch him again when he's 44"!

The bridge at yorktown (mud bridge) is a good spot. But any rain and you can't go near it, except the concrete bridge. The bridge is ok, late at night, or early morning. Obviously, once the traffic picks up, you should move. Local police are pretty good about you being there, as long as it's quiet, and your not running across the road ( believe me, I've seen several lot's of semi-naked fishermen running around like the traffic is a hindrance! And deservedly, they got the boot!).
You can get to the old railway from flour bluff. There's a blue water tower, and a real bumpy road that will take you to the tracks. The fishing there is pretty random, but is a good place for flounder, and there's plenty bait to catch. Alas, as with most of Oso, it's pretty unwadeable. Give me a shout when your here, I'll come out with you.
