1st Unboxing Of This Unknown Lever Drag That Greatly Differs From The iCAST Reels Highlighted 2yr Ago!
What makes this lever drag different from the other Alijos coming out latter this year? It incorporates a TDS "Tournament Drag Cam" that is recently being offered to Makaira Reel owners as an add on.
MAKAIRA TDC DRAG CAM "Okuma’s TDC or “Tournament Drag Cam” is designed with a more gradual ramp in the cam system that is intended for anglers fishing light line and tournament IGFA line classes. The standard cam that is installed in the Makaira reels is engineered to be compatible with braided line and offers aggressive drag ramps in order to output heavy drag ratings. The Makaira reels are engineered to output extreme drag pressure, but this is not required by all anglers. These reels have been designed to offer customization and with the TDC cam system, Okuma is offering anglers a reel that is versatile for a wide range of fishing applications, allowing anglers the ability to achieve a more gradual increase in drag settings".
Currently 2 models of the Alijos will offer this. On the Makaira line it's an addition. Alijos will still offer these sizes coming out soon- Two-Speed Lever Drag Reels AJ-5NII AJ-5II AJ-12NSII AJ-12II AJ-12SII AJ-16II
High Speed Lever Drag Sailfish Reels AJ-12S SE (The One I'm Portraying) AJ-16S SE
For the Sailfish editions the S is for Speed/High Speed & the SE is for Special Edition.
The TDC is one of the differences separating these 2 Sailfish Editions from the other editions. The second difference is they have an Ergo Grip Handle rather than the 90˚ T-Bar for ease of retrieving the wet lines at a faster speed.
This is a user specific reel meant for specific surface feeding species during moments of multiple hook-ups. Might even work for Mahi-Mahi & Wahoo as well. These reels aren't described on Okuma's website but are highlighted in their 2021 catalog. You can download this link for your viewing pleasure-

Curt0407, this is something completely new to fishing using a TDC cam gear that does something unique so much so that it's only now being offered to add to a DFD drive cam. You can't find a site that offers this information or explanation.Even the Okuma website has no info on this. This gearing offers certain style of fishermen operating off the US South Eastern Coastlines to target species like Kingfish to Mahi Mahi & White Marlin by slowly ramping up external forces to allow the fishermen to get multiple strikes before reeling it back in. It is a unique Cam that'll increase catches. Sharing information like this broadens everyones understanding of all the aspects of fishing. I do show new gear from companies that work with me like Okuma to Mustad & 19 others (one of which is from Austin, TX). Groups like this is for sharing information to help catch more fish & to understand how things work. The Admins in this group was nice enough to explain things and i've followed their recommendations.
