So I got out to Athens this morning. Not the best conditions due to wind but I haven't been on the lake so I didn't let that stop me. I couldn't really get to the places I wanted to go due to the direction the wind was blowing so I hit a couple of the close boathouses. I figured the crappie may be willing to play so I tied on a Bobby Garland Baby Shad in BlueGrass which is always productive on Athens. 2nd cast produced this:



Nice plumb crappie of about 9 inches. I was catching them pretty regular from them on. No monsters but a few that went about 12 inches long as well as a few dinks. Right in the middle of the crappie bite I was interrupted by this feisty rascal:



He was fun but not what I was after. Mama wanted a fish fry tonight so I kept some crappie and them took the Bobby Garland off and began fishing a piece of crawler on a jig hook. I knew it was a little early for the gills but I had to try considering this is Lake Athens. I only took one gill, but he was a good one:



In a couple of weeks the gills should be really active. About 1045 I finally gave up fighting the wind in the float tube and went on it. All in all it was a good day and it felt really good to be feelin' the thump once more.
