Tied these this week in anticipation of going after the sandies tomorrow. Top to bottom, Clouser tied in the Charles Cypert minimalist style, soluble minnow, white rio getter, something new that I'm calling the "angry bird minnow." Closeup on the angry bird.

The soluble minnow was the MVP of the trip yesterday. I'll be tying up a bunch more this week.

What doesn't work for sand bass? When they're hungry, they eat. Crazy fun.

My buddy was catching them last week on a giant olive woolly bugger, which I found irritating, because that's clearly not a minnow imitation. I gave his fish a good scolding for not being proper white bass.

That angry bird minnow caught me a few on Saturday. I think I'll try it in the creeks a little later in the spring.

What doesn't work for sand bass? When they're hungry, they eat. Crazy fun. Very true. About 5 years ago when you could still wade fish below Lake Whitney, my brother and myself caught dozens of fish on a brown/yellow GFA hopper. It was January and there were no live grasshoppers anywhere, but the fish were hungry and it was fun.
