I want to get an e6x spinning rod and a fury or sierra flipping stick. Can someone explain to me what "mag" means. It says "mag" light or "mag heavy", etc. Thanks

What are the exact models you’re interested in? Mag can mean different things to different rod makers.

If you do a search on the exact models you’re interested in, odds are you’ll find a good amount of real life reviews on these rods spread over a few different forums.

For the e6x, the model is the 6'10 Mag Medium extra fast 822S SYR. There is also a DSR in the exact same specs which I assume to mean dropshot. For some reason though the line recommendations are 8-12 on the SYR and 6-12 on the DSR. The recommended lure weights also are different. Not sure why this is. Maybe one has a softer tip?
For the fury, the model is the 7'3 mag heavy fast which appears to be recommended for heavier lines than the normal heavy.

"Mag" means +1 on strength as I understand it in Dobyns. So that 7'3" Mag Heavy on Dobyns would be extra heavy in other brands.

Yup, the 7'3 Mag Heavy is supposedly a really good froggin rod for the price range. I'd be interested to see your thoughts on the e6x after you've fished with it for awhile. Looking at getting one for my dad as a retirement gift in the next year or so.

With Dobyns you can look at the model number

706 is 7'0" Xtra heavy
735 is 7'3" Heavy
684 is 6'8" MH
First 2 digits are length
Last digit is action.
4 is MH, but it is slightly heavier than most MH
765 flip is a nice rod I think comes in the fury sieries
I think the sierra sieres is the best bang for your buck, but also the most difficult to find

Yes, I've heard the same about the 7'3 being a great frog rod. I'm also thinking about using it for pitching since I like a shorter rod to be more accurate.
I will let you know how I like the e6x. I have used one once before and it is very sensitive and really light.

The E6X is not very sensitive. I bought one a while back to try out and did not like it, although I do like Loomis rods and have several of them, just not the entry level ones. You can find better rods in the same price range as the entry level Loomis rods. The GL3 was another Loomis rod that wasn't very sensitive. IMX and above are good. NRX is super sensitive but it is also expensive.

Tell us what technique you are planning to use for each rod and we can give you suggestions on what we like best.

Agreed. I am a big fan of Loomis rods but if you can't get the IMX or above don't buy one.

I've seen guys buy one of the lower end Loomis rods and then base their opinion of Loomis on that rod.

That would be kind of like going to McDonald's and buying a 99 cent burger then using that as your opinion of burgers from that point forward. Yeah, the burger at Perry's Steakhouse is $16 but it is NOTHING like the 99 cent McD's burger.

Where is Perry's Steakhouse??? If you ever find a place that has an peanut butter and jelly hamburger, try it... I know it sounds weird but they are awesome. I had my first one at a place in Colorado. Awesome burger.

735 Fury is great for pitching and flipping and frog. I would look into the 703 or 702 fury spinning it’s gonna be better than the EX6 IMO and be cheaper. Like Ken said the EX6 isn’t really a good representation of Loomis. I had a few and I couldn’t stand them preferred they Fury rods
