They can grind the tree from the top down these days, they routinely drive a very large saw along the trees to cut off branch's around power lines on the way to the lake house on Rayburn.

I once had a job with a dude that specialized in cutting down trees close to the house. You rope them, make a pulley in the tree and they never ā€œfallā€ and never hit the ground. That’s because it will tear a yard up and my boss made sure they didn’t hit the ground!! If they did hit the ground it was my arse chewing.

But to answer your question, if it’s a mature pine tree it has a chance but usually, especially on younger trees they die. The mature tree may survive. This is based on a change of temperature of 60 degrees, it for sure causes damage because the tree doesn’t have the ability to ā€œhardenā€.
