My guess is most of the fish are stacked in prespawn areas

At 12:30 Sunday, I found them at 15-20 foot down in 23 FOW. By 4:30 when I left, they were 3-6 foot down in 23 FOW. Surface temp was 60 Degrees at 4:30.

I plan on crappie fishing next week so I was wondering how the crappie have been lately No sir, they’re still fasting. Give it a couple weeks. Crappie only bite, and/or eat for about 3 weeks out of the entire year that’s why the spring is so magical! Once the spawn run is over they go dormant till next spring!

Caught some shallow yesterday even though some say to wait till April. This week will go a long ways for helping the shallow bite. Also, the crappie bite year round

They're in pre-spawn areas and spawn areas. The 20 we caught Tues afternoon were in 12-18" of water.

It's only one way to found out. Yeah if you wait till everyone tells you they are in the shallow, you will miss it. The daily forum comments go like this: Still prespawn, too early.... They are still staging... Not in the shallow yet, should be any day tho.... Oh spawn is over, you missed it...

Well I been fishing Benbrook Lake every morning this week. They only bite from 6:30 am the 7:30 am but I catch 6 or 7 male crappie 13 to 14 inchers in 3 to 4 feet of water. North bank walking the bank. Too windy for a boat.
