I have been running AGM trolling motor batteries and Cranking battery since 2013 and have had no issues. Batteries are still going strong 8 years later. I use the Dual Pro Professional Series 4 bank charger.

I normally enjoy Kens videos but this one not so much. Too much misinformation.

Why do other chargers like NOCO Genius claim to charge AGM? What did MinnKota discover that no one else has since it’s the only one he claims can fully charge a AGM?

Guess I should start checking my AGM -- Figured with much of a run the high output charger on these new V8 Mercs would top it off.

A 30 minute video on an AGM cranking battery and why it doesn't get charged? There was a lot of other info. Of course this is America and you don't have to watch it. I've always had questions and even posted threads on here about mixing batteries/types of batteries and matching chargers. This did answer some of those questions especially the relationship to AGM batteries and trickle chargers.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

I think his wording was he couldn't vouch for other chargers and knew the MK would differentiate battery types.

I changed my starting battery from lead to an AGM back in the summer. I have the Minn Kota 460PC charger. After switching over I noticed that I was having graph restart and low voltage issues on long days. At that time I had no idea that there were different settings on that charger. Finally after several months of issues I finally learned that I needed to change the charger to an AGM setting. After doing that my problems were solved. Made a world of difference.

So chargers that don't let you select the type of battery should be swapped out for new ones if you're running AGM battery?

AGM is not a gel battery. They lost me at that point
Absorbent glass mat (AGM) is a class of lead-acid deep cycle battery in which the electrolyte absorbs into a fiberglass mat. The plates in an AGM battery may be flat like wet cell lead-acid battery, or they may be wound in a tight spiral. AGM batteries, as their name suggests use a glass mat to absorb the electrolyte. That's how you get the name- Absorbed Glass Mat.
A gel battery design is typically a modification of the standard lead-acid automotive or marine battery. A gelling agent is added to the electrolyte to reduce movement inside the battery case. Many gel batteries also use one-way valves in place of open vents, which help the normal internal gasses to recombine back into water in the battery, reducing gassing.

I'll stick with Batteries Plus every two years, They climb up in the boat and install them for me!
What does one a those AGM batteries cost anyway? Plus a new Minn Kota charger?
