Fished Lake Mcqueeney Thursday with my good buddy Jeff. We fished from 7am till about 11am. Caught eight bass in the 2 to 4 pound range. Had a nice one spit the lure back at me. I would guess the bass was between 6 to 8 pounds. Bass were caught using small crank baits, Chartreuse/Black in color, Silver Rattle Traps, and White Rooster Tails. Bass are pre spawning and caught in 8 to 6 feet of water close to gravel and sand beds. We also fished a couple of marked brush piles with no results. We did find some spawning fish in a cove in 4 feet of water. We caught a total of 12 Crappie and kept 7 for the dinner table. Crappie were caught on Jigs, Chartreuse/Pink in color. We also caught a few Bluegill in 6 feet of water holding close to a drop off. The Bluegill were caught on a drop shot rig using Gulp Alive Leaches. We kept a few Bluegill for the dinner table. Boat traffic was light. All in all, a fantastic morning of fishing on Lake Mcqueeney.

Yes Vogey I mainly use ultralight tackle on both the bass and panfish. Six pound test line.
Side Note: I do have a rod/reel geared up for bass with 12 pound test line. It's an Ugly Stick.

As always another good post. I have a spot on Mcqueeney that I fish frequently. It is down channel. The bite usually does not turn on there until late March and April. Side Note: Do you think an early Bluegill/Sunfish spawn?

Thanks everyone for the replies. Chuck: Yes Sir I think the spawns will start within the next week or two. Some areas a little later. I think there will be spawning going on all year. I am going to guess four spawns this year.

Love that Lake. At one time years ago It was one of the best bass lakes in Texas! Always love your post Laker. Good job Sir. I can remember when about half of the main lake was covered with lily pads. You could also rent boats from Frazier's Ice House. Oh yea the Friday night fish fries at Hot Shots! Those were the days.

That had to be many of years ago! I have seen plenty of old pictures of Lake Mcqueeney. That lake looked like a BIG BASS LAKE!
