Was in a situation today where I feel like an umbrella rig would have paid off well but in the past it seems it’s about the quickest way to lose $25 so I’m curious about some budget options.

Seems like the Yum Flash Mob JR is considered by most a reliable budget option. But at $14 plus jig heads plus boot tail swim baits easily $30+.

Does anyone throw any of the various Amazon options that at $4-7 each? Is there a decent jig head available?

Would using a straight shank flipping hook with keep be a viable option and just run the hook exposed? Would the rig run alright with just the umbrella rig having a weight and the swimbaits fished weightless?

Not needing to throw in deep water 5-12’ max.

Even on the budget rigs, you're still looking at some change if you loose it. Yes, the straight forward wires will work, they also sell those at some of the independent tackle shops in DFW (Fun-N-Sun for example).
