For many years I thought they were the same fish bit turns out that is not so. Been a long time since I have seen one.

Caught a couple this past fall. Warmouth.

We catch quite a few at Fork while Crappie fishing. Never very big, maybe between 4"-8". Too bad they dont seem to get very big
because they are the hardest fighting fish in the lake....

Both caught in January in two different bodies of water.

The ones I have been catching in southcentral Texas and the hill country have been in the 8 and 9 range. Usually catch about 10 to 20 a year. They are the hardest to find for me. I do have places where there is a good population of Warmouth.

I've caught tons of rock bass/redeye. We called them redeye where I grew up in Virginia didn't think we had them here in Texas until I saw Potlickers photo. They usually prefer cool clear water. If you catch them over 7 or 8 inches they make for some awfully tasty eating. Really thick fillet on them and flesh whiter than crappie.

Have not caught any this year. Got a few last year. Hopefully will catch some this year.

I get them in Lake Athens once in a while but havent got one over 5 inches there. Used to catch lots of them when the Navy had me in VA.

Had one in an aquarium once, cool fish. Have stumbled across one in just about every north and east TX lake or pond at one time or another.

Very pretty fish.
