So, I wondered what experience the forum members have with dowsing. I have never had much success but have used the services of people I know to locate water and underground pipes, etc. My experience is that some folks have the ability while others don’t. The guys I have asked to help me locate underground lines have never failed and yet whrn I try the same techniques I get squat.
I remember my dad dowsing only once when he was going to have a well drilled and it produced a good supply of water.
Myth or reality?

I have seen guys do it in the oilfield that were more accurate than the electronic line finders. I have tried and don't have that skill. The guy that was the best I've ever seen said he used brazing rods for hydrocarbons and fruit tree branches for water.

I used a guy that would do it, never trusted him, waited on the line locators to show up.

I have done it...just messin' around with it. I use 2 stripped electric wires.
Years ago I showed a friend and he tried, he couldn't find anything. I walked behind with my hands on his arms and it worked. Weird!!

Pretty amazing.

Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

I use brass rods to locate. My FIL uses either brass rod or a small peach limb to find then, uses single brass rod to find intersections or one steam of water AND, can tell you how deep the water is. He dowsed all 5 wells on their ranch with 99.99% success/accuracy. I had him followup on our place and he was one foot off of 2 streams from another guy we used prior. He is unable to tell you how many GPM though. Not all folks have this gift or?

A couple of years after I went to work at the power plant they were looking for a sewer line and couldn’t get the company guy out when they needed him so I grabbed a couple of 1/8th brass welding rods and walked out where the backhoe was at. There were 5 or 6 guys standing around and they asked me what I was doing. I told them I would find their line. They all laughed until my rods started moving in my hands. After a couple of trips across the line I said dig here. Short story is they never called the line finder again. I found at least a hundred lines over the years.
