LLELA is not associated with any state or national park.

It is run by UNT's biology department.

Yesteday up there I saw some turkeys, the usual egrets and herons, I saw a deer cross the river downstream from me, and I saw a mink of all things.

I also saw a lot of white bass and hybrids, but they were all attached to my roadrunner.

We OWNED the White Bass at Llela today...

"Any size to them?"

Umm...yeah! 20-25 White Bass, EACH...and within those 50 whites...

I'd say...Oh, about 2 of them were under 10 inches...

MOst were averaging 10-15" or more.

Plus two giant crappie, a drum, a huge channel cat, some buffalo and some hybrids we eventually lost due to straightened hooks in the current and fighting them a bit too fast an in effort to get back out in the water and hook another fish while we had time...

Oh, and did I mention all of that was within 1.5 hours?

Llela rules right after they've been releasing.

And yesterday, Bret did even better with even more white bass and over 10 hybrids...

Sounds fun, hope you don't mind if my dad and I check it out this Friday morning. Anyway to know when they are releasing? I've been in a sandy/hybrid slump the last month or so and my freezer is suffering because of it lol.

Of course we don't mind.

We will be in Austin for the Carp Anglers Group Invitational Tournament.

They release a little bit of water for power generation pretty often, but they only open the gates when the lake is getting too high, and the need to do flood control.

Young - Congrats on the first hybrid! One of my favorite fish along with Common Carp and Smallmouth Bass.

Show Boy, it is, just make sure you are real careful with them if you fish under the spillway.

There are a lot of very steep, loose, and treacherous rocks directly under the spillway, that we were fishing off of, and when they are releasing, the current is VERY strong.

If you take the kids might be better off hiking downstream just a little to where the bank is flat and smooth grass.

I second that.. Although I spent a lot of my teenage life fishing a spillway, I do not think it is a good place for the kiddos. I've seen two different people get compound fractures in the lower leg at the spillway below lake ray roberts.. NOT a pretty site. The first one happened before everyone had a cell phone when you had to park on the west side and walk about a mile up and over the spillway to get to any of the decent spots on the east side. It was haul getting that dude out of there.

That is the old "spillway" (actually the release area) of Lewisville, discharging directly into my favorite stream in these here parts, the Elm Fork!

Fishing there has always been nothing short of FABULOUS, since i used to fish there with my dad back in the late 60's/early 70's!

Used to be able to drive directly to it, right next to a fish hatchery on the northeast bank of the river!

Yep.. I fished there a few times in the 80's and it was nice to be able to drive right down to it. You still can now, but only on Friday-Sunday.

Can someone show the drive path? I googled it but can't figure out how to get down there with a car.....I don't mind walking but I always prefer driving when possible :-)
